One of my top favorite picture book-writer/illustrator is M.B. Goffsteain. She declares herself to be a minimalist. Indeed, I think her stories and illustrations are concise.
Recently I came across to another very interesting illustrator/writer, Maira Kalman, who has written couple of adult/children's books and blogged on NY Times.I recommend anyone to enjoy their works. They are, to me, interesting both from art and cultural perspectives. I feel also something more spiritual in their works. Somehow, I came to know that both of them have Jewish origin.
